Singapore Changi Airport Terminals 1 and 3 reopen to the public

For the first time in more than three months, Terminals 1 and 3 of Singapore Changi Airport (SIN) reopened their doors on September 1, 2021.

The reopening comes ahead of the start of Singapore’s eased border restrictions for vaccinated travelers. The terminals were closed in May 2021 to the public due to a COVID-19 cluster that was found at the airport.

More than 80% of the stores in Terminal 1 and 3 have reopened, a spokesperson from Changi Airport Group told Channel News Asia. As an effort to attract more members of the public to visit, free parking will be offered to Terminal 1 until October 10, 2021.  

Extra precautions have been put in place with the anticipation of traffic increase at the airport. Airport staff have their own segregated dining area at basement 2 of Terminal 3 in order to minimize contact between staff and travelers. 

The terminals’ reopening coincides with Singapore’s plan to ease border restrictions. The country’s Prime Minister Lee Hsien Long announced in his National Day Rally speech on August 29, 2021, that it was important for Singapore to open up soon and allow people to travel in and out safely so that the country can retain its position as a global business hub.
