Man arrested in Florida after jumping on the wing of a plane
Miami police detained a man who jumped onto an aircraft wing through an emergency exit.
According to local media, the incident happened on September 28, 2021, 7:16 p.m. local time (23:16 UTC), at Miami International Airport (MIA).
The American Airlines (A1G) (AAL) flight 920 has just arrived from Colombia, and as passengers started deplaning, one of them opened an emergency exit and jumped onto the wing.
According to other reports, the passenger opened the emergency exit while the plane was still taxiing.
Police officers arrived at the scene. Upon seeing them, the man jumped off the wing and was immediately apprehended, a statement by the Miami-Dade police department said.
American Airlines (A1G) (AAL) confirmed the incident in a separate statement, saying that no delays have been caused.
This is not the first time unruly passengers cause trouble by exiting onto an aircraft wing. In 2016, a woman jumped onto a wing while the aircraft was still taxiing to the gate at Houston George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH).
In December 2020, a man climbed onto a wing of an Alaska Airlines Boeing 737 while the aircraft was about to depart.
