Airbus TwoTwenty bizjet takes off for the first time
The Airbus TwoTwenty business jet has conducted its maiden flight, the company announced.
The aircraft took off from Montreal Mirabel airport (YMX) in the morning of December 14, 2021. According to Radarbox data, the flight lasted one hour and 38 minutes.
TwoTwenty is a business jet version of the Airbus A220-100 narrow-body airliner and features additional fuel tanks for increased range, as well as a host of other improvements.
It is the latest addition to the Airbus Corporate jets (ACJ) line, and is the company’s smallest bizjet to date. It has a range of 5,650 nautical miles (10,464 kilometers).
According to an Airbus press release, the first aircraft of this model will be to be delivered in the coming weeks to Comlux, an exclusive outfitting partner that purchased the first six TwoTwenties.
The final destination of this aircraft is the collection of Kabir Mulchandani, the founder and CEO of hotel chain FIVE Holdings. He signed the contract for the aircraft in November 2021.
Airbus TwoTwenty was launched in October 2020, and the first aircraft entered assembly in mid-2021.
The aircraft's additional fuel tanks have been causing quite the stir for some time now. The feature allows for a greater long-haul capability, something that has garnered significant attention from several airlines, such as Air Baltic and Breeze Airways.
With airlines expressing interest in a long-haul version of the A220, Airbus has hinted that it might produce a variant of the aircraft with the same capabilities as the TwoTwenty in the future.
