Fort McMurray Airport shut down on Christmas Day due to suspicious package
Canada’s Fort McMurray International Airport (YMM) shut down for several hours on Christmas Day due to a suspicious package.

Fort McMurray’ Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) responded to reports of a suspicious package in the arrivals terminal at 16:30 local time. All scheduled passenger flights were suspended, and out of precaution, YMM airport was closed until 00:05 on December 26, 2021.

The RCMP explosive disposal unit (EDU) traveled to the airport from Edmonton. It determined the package was not explosive or dangerous, and was declared no longer suspicious in nature.

RCMP advised local media Canada Police report, “RCMP are continuing their investigation under the Canadian Aviation Security Regulations and Aeronautics Act. The Alberta RCMP would like to thank the travelers of the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo, and those at the Fort McMurray International Airport for their cooperation and patience, as well as the media for their assistance during this incident.”
