Lufthansa reschedules some Ukraine flights to avoid layovers in Kyiv
German flag carrier, Lufthansa (LHAB) (LHA), has rescheduled some of its flights to Kyiv Boryspil International Airport (KBP) as tensions between Ukraine and Russia continue to escalate.
The flights were rescheduled due to “operational reasons”, a Lufthansa (LHAB) (LHA) spokesperson told US News. However, multiple sources confirmed that the rescheduling took place to avoid crew having to stay overnight in Ukraine.
Lufthansa’s daily flight 1492 from Frankfurt (FRA) has been moved from the afternoon to the morning. Other flights, including Lufthansa’s (LHAB) (LHA) flights to other cities in the country, have not been affected.
The decision comes in the aftermath of a buildup of Russian armed forces along the border with Ukraine. On January 24, 2021, the US authorized the immediate departure of family members of its embassy employees from Ukraine, and on January 24, the United Kingdom also withdrew some of its embassy staff from the country.
Lufthansa (LHAB) (LHA) operates three daily flights to KBP, as well as flights to Lviv (LWO) and Odessa (ODS).
