Canada’s Swoop to order six Boeing 737 MAX jets
Canada’s ultra-low-cost airline Swoop, a subsidiary of WestJet, will expand its fleet by introducing Boeing 737 MAX aircraft.
In anticipation of returning travel demand, the airline decided to add six new 737 MAXs to its already existing fleet of 10 Boeing 737-800 aircraft. The airline is expected to receive all aircraft in summer 2022.
"The acquisition of six new aircraft in response to anticipated demand will ensure Swoop reconnects more Canadians this summer while accelerating Canada's economic recovery,” Bert van der Stege, head of Commercial & Finance, Swoop announced in a press statement.
The Calgary-based carrier will also expand its network by adding 14 new destinations stretching across Canada. The plans for growth come as Swoop sees increased passenger numbers and record bookings. The airline will add non-stop services to Canada’s different regions in Ontario, the Prairies, Atlantic Canada.
Stege added: "We saw demand for travel return in a very meaningful way over the holidays, signaling that Canadians are ready to reunite with family and friends.”
