Boeing suspends support for Russian airlines; temporarily closes Kyiv office

Aircraft manufacturing company Boeing said on March 2, 2022 that it will suspend parts, maintenance and technical support for Russian airlines as Russia’s invasion of Ukraine continues. 

The company also said that it has temporarily closed its office in the Ukrainian capital Kyiv, along with its simulator campus in Moscow.

“We have suspended major operations in Moscow and temporarily closed our office in Kyiv. We are also suspending parts, maintenance and technical support services for Russian airlines. As the conflict continues, our teams are focused on ensuring the safety of our teammates in the region,” Boeing said in a statement seen by CNN and other major news outlets.  

“We have suspended major operations in Moscow and temporarily closed our office in Kyiv.”

Boeing’s announcement came shortly after US President Joe Biden declared a ban on Russian flights from American airspace in his State of the Union address.

“We will join our allies in closing off American air space to all Russian flights – further isolating Russia – and adding an additional squeeze –on their economy,” Biden said. 

The list of private companies cutting ties with Russia continues to grow as foreign governments increase sanctions against Russia, close airspace to its aircraft and lock some Russian banks out of the SWIFT money messaging system. 

Gas, finance, energy and banking companies are among those that have decided to withdraw business and trade in Russia.
