South African Airways has increased capacity by using bigger aircraft on some routes after the grounding of fellow South African carrier Comair.  

The South African Civil Aviation Authority suspended Comair’s operating license indefinitely on March 13, 2022 in order to investigate concerns linked to a series of recent incidents at the airline.

 South African Airways said that with 40% of the normal seat capacity being removed from the market, there has been high demand for domestic seats.  

Comair flies routes under a license agreement with British Airways and also operates low-cost brand Kulula.  

“SAA has not increased fares because of Comair’s temporary grounding,” the flag carrier specified in a press statement on March 15, 2022.  “The airline has deployed bigger aircraft on some Durban and Cape Town flights and will continue to do so until the current situation stabilizes.”
