New Italian startup airline Aeroitalia orders 3rd aircraft
New Italian airline Aeroitalia signs a leasing agreement for the third aircraft to eventually join its fleet.
Aeroitalia signed a letter of intent with Air Lease Corporation for a Boeing 737-800, the airline announced on May 6, 2022.
For Aeroitalia, the aircraft will be equipped with winglets, 189 economy seats and CFM56 engines. It will be the third aircraft in its fleet. The airline’s chief executive hopes all three aircraft will be operational by the summer 2022.
“I am very pleased to announce that today on behalf of the Aeroitalia Board of Directors I signed a letter of intent for our third Boeing 737-800 with Air Lease Corporation, which I’m glad of starting this new business relation with,” Gaetano Intrieri, Aeroitalia’s Chief Executive Officer is cited in the company’s statement. “Our goal is to have all of our 3 airplanes operating by this summer. I’d like to thank on behalf of Aeroitalia all the team that participated in the negotiation and that will work on the phase-in in the coming weeks“.
The 19-year-old aircraft was previously operated by the now-defunct German airline Air Berlin (AB1) and, later, the Belarusian flag carrier Belavia. After being returned from lease, it has been stored since December 2021, Planespotters.net data shows.
