PLAY launches inaugural flight to Boston Logan Airport
Icelandic long-haul low-cost carrier PLAY has launched its inaugural flight between Reykjavik Keflavik International Airport (KEF) and Boston Logan International Airport (BOS), the United States.
PLAY’s Airbus A321neo aircraft, registered TF-AEW, took off from KEF airport and touched down at Boston Logan Airport (BOS) on May 11, 2022, becoming the latest long-haul low-cost carrier to launch a second transatlantic route.

The news comes just weeks after the airline launched its first transatlantic route to Washington DC.
“The transatlantic flights will be the main focus in PLAY´s operations and it was a huge project to establish a connection in a new continent. But now we see the fruits of our labor, a well-made, reliable and ambitious flight plan,” Birgir Jónsson, CEO of PLAY, said in a statement dated April 2022.
Looking ahead, the airline is preparing to launch new routes to New York and Orlando.
The airline currently has a total of five aircraft in its fleet, including three Airbus A321neos and Airbus A320s. PLAY plans to have a total of 15 aircraft by 2025.
PLAY is the latest airline to join the competition in the transatlantic market. The start-up airline will compete with well-established airlines, such as British Airways and Virgin Atlantic, as well as new entrants to the transatlantic market like JetBlue (JBLU).
