Norse Atlantic Airways UK applies for US foreign air carrier permit
Norway’s newest long-haul airline Norse Atlantic Airways has applied for a foreign air carrier permit from the US Department of Transportation (#DOT) for its UK subsidiary, Norse Atlantic Airways UK. The airline aims to launch regular transatlantic flights between the UK and US by the end of 2022.
The permit will allow the British-based subsidiary to launch its initial flights from London Gatwick (LGW) to New York (JFK), Fort Lauderdale (FLL), and Orlando (MCO) and will later expand its network with an additional four routes connecting London Gatwick (LGW) and Los Angeles (LAX), San Francisco (SFO), Chicago (ORD), and Washington (DCA).
“Due to the withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the European Union, Norse Atlantic UK was established to enable the operation of non-stop scheduled passenger flights between the United Kingdom and the United States under the new US-UK open skies agreement,” Norse Atlantic UK explained in its filing, which was seen by Flightglobal on June 22, 2022.
“Norse Atlantic UK plans to further expand its service over time to other points in the United States to meet passenger demand,” the airline added.
Norse Atlantic Airways has already made its inaugural commercial long-haul flight between Oslo (OSL) and New York (JFK) on June 14, 2022.
“Norse Atlantic Airways has now entered a new chapter, we are delivering on our promise to offer affordable value and a quality traveling experience to all,” the airline’s chief executive Bjorn Tore Larsen said on the day of departure.
The Norwegian low-cost long-haul airline applied for its foreign air carrier permit in September 2021 and was approved in January 2022, clearing the way for the start-up airline to commence transatlantic operations with its Boeing 787 aircraft.
