Etihad returns to Beijing, China with weekly direct flights from Abu Dhabi starting June 29, 2022, almost two years after it resumed flights to Shanghai.

The national carrier of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) said that this will be the first regular direct international passenger flight to resume for Beijing under the latest mandate of China’s Joint Prevention and Control Mechanism of the State Council, in response to Covid-19.

The Beijing route will be the second China destination that Etihad Airways is resuming after it restarted scheduled services from Abu Dhabi to Shanghai, one of China’s biggest cities, in July 2020.

"Etihad Airways is delighted about the resumption of passenger services between Abu Dhabi and Beijing, our second service to resume to China,”senior vice president global sales & cargo at Etihad Aviation Group Matthew Drew said in a statement.

Drew added: “China has always been an important strategic market for Etihad and the resumption of direct flights between the two capital cities will further strengthen the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and the United Arab Emirates.”

For the inaugural flight, EY 888 will leave Abu Dhabi on June 29, 2022 at 18:00 local time, and will arrive in Beijing on June 30 at 05:25 local time.

EY 889 will depart Beijing on July 1, 2022 at 02:10 local time and will arrive in Abu Dhabi the same day at 07:10 local time.
